  1. Walked it last year!! Interesting walk especially seeing the 100ft drop where the Parliamentarian cavalry literally fell! Will post some pics on my blog Had a meal in the Cromwell Inn place mats had a map of the battle...beer was unremarkable although Wadsworth's brewery worth a visit in Devizes, little about the engagement in the museum tho'

    1. Fraxinus - I last went years ago (5? 6?) prior to my blog but unfortunately I lost the old article I wrote, so it's a good excuse to visit a quite lovely battlefield - I have abiding memories of the birds singing, warm, sunny, and how steep that hill was where Hesselrig's Lobsters were routed to their destruction....

PS. Overnight'ing in Bath - pints of Pitchfork by the gallon here I come!! :o)

  2. Always wanted to go to Roundway Down after reading the Nicholas Carter novels Shadow on the Crown books (it's a shame that series finished in mid air).

    1. Legatus - I have long accepted that I am "weird" (eldest teenage daughters description, secretly concurred by current Mrs Steve the Wargamer), and among my weirder traits are a delight in visiting old battlefields - I have found the ones I've visited invariably beautiful, peaceful, and very instructive... Roundway, Landsdown, and Cheriton should be on anyone's bucket list.....

  3. Cheriton is very close to my sister in law's house. Maybe next time we go there I'll take my bike...
