    1. Lee - I have the perfect spot for it - right next to the umbrella stand...

  4. Fabulous - I loved the official description of "used"...

Hey, if you got this, you could sit and paint your pikemen while wearing it - that would frighten off the Jehova's Witnesses if they called round.

  5. Almost identical to the set I wore in the late 70s through to the mid 80s. To be honest it looks like a Victorian repro- of which a good few were made rather than a 70s repro. The buff coat of course is not original- the leather is far too thin.
Even if period the price tag is silly

    1. Andy - being sold as "original" - it's in good nick I'll grant you, but he does mention that the buff coat is a new addition.... and £10K?? No idea... but he's had no bids!

    2. As they say on the Antiques Roadshow "Provenence is everything". If I was considering buying this, I would want a ship-load of evidence from the seller that this is "original" (what does that mean exactly btw? The seller doesn't actually say "original 17th century").

Caveat emptor, expecially regarding auctions. :)

    3. 10k is quite silly even of a 17th century set. If 17th century 5 k might be nearer the mark but even then there are a surprising number about though provenance is always an issue.
I've seen victorian repro armours go for2-3 k but prices depend on exactly what is being offered- that is a pretty standard set but with a gorget. Can't see a proof mark so not sure if there is one.

    4. Red_Cardinal - me too - but I could think of at least a thousand things I could the use the 10 grand for before I got to a set of 17th C armour.... :o))

    5. Andy - I'm quite surprised at how close the prices are between original and repro..

  6. I'm a natural sceptic when I see things like this, so I'm in Big Andy's camp.

    1. David - me too - but eBay gets very annoyed with sellers misrepresenting so I'm assuming the guy has provenance or will face the consequences...

  7. I too wondered about it's authenticity, but there are many genuine ones that are in just as good condition. Nice one here from the Littlecote collection (a must visit for any ECW enthusiast), and the shoulder straps and clips look very much the same, the rivetting is even more 'fancy'.

    1. Lee - that is a superb set of armour... I always imagined far more workmanlike and undecorated...
