DG was at the Crusade show in Penarth yesterday and heard on the grapevine that
Colours might be cancelled this year...
A check on the new fangled 'interweb thing' (TM) would seem to
indicate that is indeed the case...
What am I going to do in October now??

"Colours 2014:
Newbury and Reading wargames club have decided to take a break from Colours in
2014 but plan to return in 2015 Newbury and Reading Wargames Society would like
to confirm that Colours 2014 will not be taking place. This has been a hard
decision to take as we all enjoy running the show and making it a success.
However over recent years the success at Colours has seen it grow to a size were
we as a club have struggled to run the show as smoothly and successfully as we
would like. This in conjunction with other issues have forced us to take a real
look at what events we as a club can run. Rather than carry on regardless and
risk a real disaster befalling the show, we have taken the hard decision to not
have a Colours in 2014. We will instead use 2014 as a time to review and plan
for 2015. We hope to have your understanding at this time and your support in
the future For the absence of doubt Colours’ sister show “A Call to Arms” will
be running on 15th February 2014 as planned. We look forward to seeing you
there!"
Now that's a shame - a great show.
ReplyDeleteDannoc - couldn't agree more...
DeleteOh no! I love Colours; it's my favourite show and as I drive there I can pick up scenery which I can't at Salute. Wonder what the real reason is?
ReplyDeleteLegatus - not my favourite, but one I really enjoy... I'd have been really gutted if Warfare had been cancelled....
Deletelegatus, it is called 'burn out'
ReplyDeleteIf the same people have been running the show for three years or more - it becomes difficult to maintain the energy.
I have seen it more times than I care to count here in North America.
Murdock - you may have a point - it's a big show for what I think is not a huge club...
DeleteColours is a very convenient show for me as its just down the M4. Over recent years I have regularly gone to colours and warfare in Reading. Both in reality are shopping expeditions as my shopping list is added to from Christmas onwards and I always leave colours laden with goodies. warfare is treated as a top up buying show and for things in time for Christmas once again. I know I can buy it all on the web but I do like to see the stuff in the flesh and seek inspiration. I am seriously hoping it does return in 2015.

Guy - re. convenience - same here - looks like I may have to travel further this year if I want another show to go to...
DeleteAndrew - agreed - as one of the three shows I go to per year it's a fairly major hit....
ReplyDeletedon't give up on the show just yet "I have a cunning plan"
