His Napoleonic Wargaming for Fun was the last great wargaming book I have read (thanks to the new edition by J. Curry).
He really was an original thinker. A lot of "indie design" flavor and ideas in his writing, that would surprise quite a bunch of new wave RPG game designers. In wargaming? There´s noone doing this kind of stuff, not even the great Arty Conliffe or Ed from THW.
