Day out in London...1

School holidays at the moment so Steve the Wargamer, the current Mrs Steve the Wargamer and the two spuds went to London for the day...

Fine day had by all......

Morning at the Aquarium (chosen by eldest & recommended by the way - but pictures of fish taken in half light do not a riveting blog make)..

Afternoon - first stop Baker Street - not only the title of the finest song ever written, but also the stomping ground of a certain consulting detective....

The man himself..

This is just outside Baker Street tube station..

221B Baker Street - museum upstairs, but you can visit the shop downstairs for free....

...which gives a lovely impression of how the building would have appeared in Victorian times...  funny thing, the Beatle Store is next door...  talk about a juxtaposition
Later that afternoon, and as the smallest Steve the Wargamer offspring is a huge fan of the Beatles (guess where she was while I was in 221B!) where else were going to go other than Abbey Road while we were in the area!

Steve the Wargamer and smallest cross the road on that zebra crossing...

Cynical I may be, but that was still amazing!

...and the studio's - just down the road on the left from the Beatles in the picture above..

What amazed me was the sheer number of people who had clearly come just to see the studio's... there's nothing to see..  just a building and a zebra crossing up the road, but clearly there is still a huge fan base...

Back on the tube... end of the day fast approaching....   just one last stop... Tower Hill.....!

HMS Belfast - just the other side of the river...  would like to visit one day...

Couldn't get a good shot as the damn ferry terminal is in the way and they wouldn't let me take a photo from the end of the pier...

Better shot..

Stay tuned for part 2.... Tower Hill has to be the most photogenic parts of London ever....

  1. I can remember going to the Belfast as a Cub Scout in the 70's! I recall being terrfified of climbing the ladders inside the ship. Should really visit it again-there is not a lot of history left that has not been converted into an amusement park or shopping precinct!

  3. I love the way you refer to her as the current Mrs Steve the Wargamer as if you are already planning on acquiring the next one!

Walked past the Belfast last week on the way to a meeting and it is closed until further notice. No dates as to when it will reopen...

  4. Cheers guys...

Legatus - according to the website she re-opens on the 18th May.... we quite enjoy these family days out to London so we may come up to town again in June half term, and this may be a possibility for a visit...

PS. Take my advice and always refer to them as "current"... it keeps them on their toes... :o)

  5. Love "the smoke". Last time we were on Abbey Road I couldn't beleive the number of people standing outside the studios either. I'd reccommend the Natural History Museum for a visit - full day needed to see it all. Disappointed with the National Army Museum. Do not go to Mdme Tussads - complete waste of money.
